just north of Pontiac Street. The trees are sentinals along the path to the Ottawa River. Because they are closer to the river than some of the largest bur oaks in Champlain Park, cure
they also serve as reminders of the past, namely to the 17th century naming of Lac Deschenes (the name for this part of the Ottawa River). Of course, “Deschenes” means “of the oaks.”
On July 17, during a fierce wind and rainstorm that also took down the stage at Bluesfest, one of those bur oaks lost a large limb. The NCC has yet to do the cleanup.
