The saplings–bred from the giant bur oaks of Champlain Park–will replace two trees planted by the City a year ago. Those trees (bred in a nursury) died over the summer, illness perhaps due to drought conditions. The forestry unit at the City has given the Champlain Oaks permission to replace the dead trees with two saplings.
We’ll be doing the tree planting on September 26, National Tree Day and expect to have students from St. George’s School on Keyworth Ave. involved in the planting.
If you live in Champlain Park and would like to plant a bur oak sapling on your property, two are available for that purpose. Please visit the Champlain Park community associaton’s website for details.
